"The Gilded Age" Season 4

The series is still a glittering feast for the eyes and ears. It’s the humor and heart that sneak up on you.

★★★½ (3½ out of 4)

From the birth of a titled baby to the consecration of the Statue of Liberty in New York harbor on October 28, 1886, season 4 of “The Gilded Age” on HBO Max knows just how to craft a tasty blend of froth and feeling. Those who’ve been reading me know I’m in the tank for this delicious creation from Julian Fellowes and his co-writer Sonja Warfield. Somehow, they’ve brought “Downton Abbey” to America in a beautifully designed bubble only slightly unmoored by class, race and sexual tremors. I couldn’t have liked it more.
