Don’t you love halftime? I do. Halftime isn’t just for football. Movies get one, too. Six months in, it’s time to check the scoreboard and see which films are already playing like Oscar contenders. Studios know the game: release late, stay fresh in the minds of Academy voters whose memories aren't exactly legendary, so the closer a movie can get to a year-end opening date, the better its chances.
