★★½ (2½ out of 4)
Because HBO’s “Miss You, Love You” is basically just two people talking, it’s a movie that feels very much like a play. And that talk keeps coming at you relentlessly for one hour and 37 minutes. Look, it worked when Edward Albee’s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” hit the screen with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton giving career best performances. It doesn’t work that well here even with a shorter running time because Jim Rash, who wrote this script and directed, is no Albee. The good news is that Allison Janney and Andrew Rannells act their hearts out as characters who sneak up and floor you. That’s no small thing.
