There are always morning-after shocks when the Television Academy releases its nominations for the best of the year. This year the Emmy rejects seem even more plentiful and egregious. There is little surprise that juggernauts like “The Pitt” and “Hacks” broke records and took home the lion’s share of nominations. They’ve won before and they’ll probably win again when the Emmys, hosted by “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star Mariska Hargitay, air on Sept. 14 on NBC and Peacock. Hargitay is the first woman to host the show in 15 years. That’s a good thing. But what about the contenders who get skunked—the ignored who put on a brave face while the world applauds the competitors who made the cut. I’m often told that class acts are never sore losers. Oh puh-leese! My guess is that most of them are burning up inside. I feel for them. So here’s my chance to give a little love to the overlooked—bless them all.
