All you have to do is see “Obsession,” which everyone with the price of a ticket is doing right this very minute, lay eyes on Inde Navarrette as Nikki, and watch her real self do battle with the sex fantasy version cooked up by a dweeby romantic named Bear (Michael Johnston) who had to buy a wish to make her do his bidding. Navarrette has been praised to the skies as a new face in horror, a scream queen to rank with the legends. I say that kind of hype is doing Navarrette a disservice. Her performance can stand on its own for its depth of feeling, the real horror being the sight of a young woman being denied agency over her own body and questing mind.
