Easy answer: Fresh voices. No knock on the older guard whose films dot the Cannes landscape this May—Christian Mungiu (“Fjord”), Pawel Pawlikowsi (“Fatherland”), Pedro Almodovar (“Bitter Christmas”)—but true excitement for me comes from discovery.
