Turkish-German filmmaker Fatih Akin (“Head-On,” “In the Fade”) has made what may be his tenderest film on the terrifying topic of wartime existence as seen through the eyes of a vulnerable child. A historical drama based on the life of Akin’s cowriter Hark Bohm, “Amrum” refers to the island off Germany’s North Sea where in the sputtering last days of WWII, 12-year-old Nanning Bohm, beautifully played by newcomer Jasper Billerbeck, must cope with his mixed feelings about being a member of Hitler Youth.
